EDITORIAL: a man consumed by patience that he married patience; he refused to be intoxicated by power

It is commonplace for our people to interpret over-zealous tendency and ubiquity as competence. Our average politicians have over the years suffered from the ailment  of  “talk more, do less” epidemic but its rather disheartening that most people deck this politicians as the active and productive ones and these phony paradigm has victimized our canny president, whose laid-back approach is graced with the virtue of “talk less, do more”.

Suffice it to say that this is just one of the numerous virtues of GEJ that magnet me to the admiration of this noble gentleman. For me, his gravitational force lies in the front that he has refused to be intoxicated by power.

GEJ case defies the saying that “Absolute power corrupts absolutely”. The phrase has come short in his exception. The palpable vices about absolute power is that it seduces you to the shortcomings of impatience, unforgiving spirit, allergic to incisive advice, lack of discernment, lack of humility and unremorseful spirit, thereby leading you to the crime of “Act now, think later and damn the consequence” .

One great attribute GEJ has in abundance is patience. Behold is a man who is so consumed with patience that he ended up marrying Patience. This is a man who even when all evidence was in his favor to become the acting-president, he chose to be patience. He waited and waited and waited and never got tired of waiting, even when the batteries of patience of his subordinates were draining, his was ever fully charged.

On his assumption of the seat of the presidency, which is in all ramifications the absolute power of socio-economic and political aspect in Nigeria, he didn’t draw a list of his enemies, opposition members and ill-wishers to set them up and indict them whether legally or illegally even when he owns all the means to do so rather he chose to forgive his enemies and in his uncommon humble nature descended from his exalted presidential seat to reach out to those who were reluctant to come to him and incorporated them into his government.

This is a man who believes in the national course and for him, the nation’s peace, unity and progress precede over his personal fracas.

No Nigeria president ever has the listening ears of GEJ. This is a man who works on the advice of the technocrats and experienced minds in his cabinet. He never lords it over anyone and he is always willing to learn. You will simply fall in love with his attentive nature which many in his position has lacked because they were drunk in power but for him, he refused to be intoxicated by power. His attentive mind transcends beyond his cabinet to the masses. He is always willing to listen to us all which the CONFAB and his regular media chat are testimonies to.

GEJ has always been graced with a perspicacious mind. He has selected the best of the best in his cabinet and this has heralded that vast improvement in every sector of the economy and human development. His discernment has been top notch. One of the good things about GEJ is that he has stayed away from “Family and Friends” system of government.  His appointment has always based on intelligence, competence, commitment, hard-work and qualification. His judgment has always been selflessly motivated.

Finally, GEJ is always the first to identify his mistake and accept them even before you ever point them out to him. He hates to make mistake and hates nothing more than repeating his mistake. Once he makes a mistake, he never repeats it, he is simply a perfectionist. He doesn’t get drunk in power and get careless and unremorseful. He has never been a careless, reckless, arrogant and rude person in his life and he has not changed his personality even as a president. GEJ has always had a gentle, calm, recollected, reserved, mild, humble and cherubic heart.

It is a once in a lifetime opportunity to have a president like him because despite all the cajole, caricature, mockery, conspiracy, betrayal, threat, propaganda, lies, cheat and daring, he has refused to be intoxicated by power.

APC PROPAGANDA LOUDER THAN CHANGE

The only change APC is bringing is changing the meaning of change

It might take less time to list what APC haven’t lied about. They have not only been misleading and lying to the Nigerian public; they have been doing the same to their own members.

The APC would probably lie about the definition of lie as well, since they have been trying to change the definitions of “change” and “evil” along with a few other words. (It has been suggested that we keep checking to make sure the word “change” remains in dictionaries.)

Why do the APC make up facts? Because they cannot debate substantive issues with real facts.

The one real talent the APC has demonstrated is the production of misleading propaganda. Why are their lies so successful? Because they know they can count on most voters being uninformed and gullible — and likely to remember the lie in the headline or TV sound bite, and be too tired, too busy or unskilled to question or search further.

Nigerian voters are particularly vulnerable to “tailored disinformation.” As Mark Twain famously said: “A lie can travel half way around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes.”

“The mortal fear of the APC is that if government delivers the goods, the APC have no future.”

Unfortunately for those of us in the “reality-based” community we cannot be deceived by APC Attack/Noise Machine

Lying is a formalized political strategy of APC designed to fool the Nigerian people to buy into their agenda.

The 70 percent of the Nigerian public, at various points on the political continuum — from liberal to moderate – is still grounded in reality. The real majority simply needs the truth so it can support sound policies and vote as responsible citizens.

Truth is not always easy to find, but a society that no longer seeks it has jettisoned its self-respect. Nigerian voters need to fight to get back self-respect and challenge APC culture of lying.

Voters need to understand the difference between an opinion and a supported argument. They need to hold all politicians and the corporate media accountable. They need to recognize the APC propaganda for what it is: propaganda.

All misinformation and lies from APC need to be recognized and condemned. Spin should be distinguished from substance. Attention needs to be paid to “fog facts.”
We’re not talking about weight and age, or people’s feelings, and we’re not selling soap. We’re talking about the future of the Nigeria and ours.

GEJ represents the future and has a vision of a government that I believe is right.

Lets vote GEJ on the 28th March

Instagram: Social media platform starts letting Ads be clickable

Instagram is an online mobile photo- sharing, video-sharing and social networking service that enables its users to take pictures and videos, and share them on a variety of social networking platforms, such as Facebook, Twitter,Tumblr and Flickr.

It never allowed URLs to open until now as it wanted people browsing photos, not the web, but Instagram says ecommerce is now allowed as brands want measurable impact, not to be breezed by.

Meanwhile, Instagram new ads court e-commerce companies that need people to click-through and buy, and big-ticket advertisers like car companies that require more than a single image to show off their product.

So for the first time, Instagram will start showing clickable links, but only in its new multi- photo carousel ads that can tell a story by letting you swipe through four branded images in sequence.

The new “Learn More” button that houses these links will open a URL in an internal browser within Instagram that allows you to quickly jump back to the feed with a tap of the top bar.

“It’s a great new creative canvas,” Instagram monetization lead,James Quarles, says.

Some people might be groaning about ads getting more powerful on Instagram, but it’s the revenue they generate that make the app free.

Instagram first began showing ads in October 2013. It endured a temporary backlash from users, but the complaints eventually died down.

About four months ago Instagram introduced video ads, to the delight of companies like Disney.

However, until now, Instagram’s ads have been primarily for institutional advertisers looking for influence, but not necessarily immediate sales. Think Coca-Cola or fashion brands like Michael Kors. Clickable carousels will make Instagram’s ads work for a much wider range of companies, which could quickly ramp up its revenue.

Above you’ll see a carousel for Pencils Of Promise, a non-profit that builds schools. A single photo might have been easy to scroll by. But if someone is interested, they can swipe through to see more photos of the students the organization helps, and at the end, click through the Learn More button to donate.

Alternatively, a fashion brand could show a model wearing a complete look, or outfit, on their first slide. Swiping though, you could see close-ups of the dress, handbag, and sunglasses, with a link out to buy these items at the end. Or a car company could show the exterior in its first image, the interior features in the second, and then an action shot of the car driving with a link to find out more about pricing and local dealerships.

Quarles insists “this initial launch will have a brand emphasis”, explaining the ads are meant to let people learn more about a company, not necessarily purchases its products or sign-up for something immediately. Users can swipe through a carousel to see multiple photos in sequence that can tell a story.

For now, these ads will just include photos, but Instagram is considering whether to allow videos in carousels too. It will also watch user reactions to the multi-shot format to determine whether users should get the option to share carousels as well.

Instagram spent its first four years focused on growth, and it worked. The photo sharing community now has over 300 million users. Refusing to render URLs as links gave Instagram a smooth feeling compared to apps like Facebook and Twitter, where you’re constantly discovering and opening links to content elsewhere. It also helped thwart spammers and self-promoters.

There’s sure to be some people who gripe that you can only show links or multiple photos if you pay. Plenty of users would love to drive traffic to their websites, content on other networks, or their latest mixtape.

But too many links and carousels could dilute the Instagram scrolling flow. It’s the same reason Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom give final approval on all ads allowed on the platform. It hopes to keep things tidy. If Instagram really wanted to be respectful of the culture it built, it would decide to only allow links on subsequent slides of carousels so they’re only visible if people engage with an ad.

The $715 million Facebook paid to acquire it seems like chump change now. Still, it’s time to start paying it back, even if that makes the user experience a bit more disjointed. Instagram’s ads were designed to be classy, glossy images like those you see “when you flip through your favorite magazine.”

Now Instagram’s advertisers will know not only if someone saw, liked, or commented on their ad, but also if people swiped through multiple photos and clicked through to their site. With this kind of measurement comes confidence, and with confidence comes ad spend. Instagram stands to get a lot richer.

Phone Review: 5 ways the Samsung GALAXY S6 Edge is a game-changer

The first time Samsung released a phone that has the Edge monicker was when it released the Samsung GALAXY Note Edge.

This time around, Samsung is releasing two phones, one of which is carrying the Edge monicker too,the Samsung GALAXY S6 and the GALAXY S6 Edge, but the focus is on the latter.

Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge got recognized as the best new handset launched during MWC 2015 and we have decided to show the five ways it got that title.

  1. Design and Display- With the Galaxy S6 Edge, Samsung successfully discarded the tag of being the only smartphone maker with a plastic-body flagship device. The phone, just like the regular Galaxy S6, marked a noticeable departure from their predecessors in terms of the better-quality materials used. It has a well crafted metal frame and glass rear which is what a lot of users had been asking for, or even demanding, for years. Interestingly, it looks a LOT better in the real world than it does in the photos. The feel is completely different. As you would expect, there is this cold and firm sensation that so many people love to much. Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge is unique with its curved screen. The two edges of the screen are slightly-curved, unlike Galaxy Note Edge which has only one curved edge. The slopes of the Galaxy S6 Edge’s screen are also less defined and gentler than the edges of the Galaxy Note Edge. The phone uses a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED display with QHD resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels and an amazing 577 pixels per inch. The screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4, the toughest glass to date. The thinner edge provides a stronger grip, and the slightly curved screen is just so beautiful.

  2. Fingerprint Sensor- This has been upgraded from a “swipe” model to a “press” one. This means that it will be much more accurate. Both Apple and Huawei have proven that a touch fingerprint sensor is the way to go, and Samsung has joined them.

  3. The Cameras- Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge did not disappoint in the camera department, with a design aimed at super-fast performance. The main camera is a 16 megapixels sensor equipped with a quick-responding F1.9 lens. It has IR detect, fast motion, auto real-time HDR and virtual shot features, amongst others. The camera can be quickly launched by double-tapping the home button. Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge also has a 5 megapixels front-facing camera with F1.9 aperture for video calls and selfies.

  4. Processor, Software and Memory- The device uses an octa-core, 64-bit Samsung Exynos processor comprising four cores clocked at 2.1GHz and another four cores at 1.5GHz. Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge comes with 3GB LPDDR4 RAM and is available in 32GB, 64GB and 128GB models. The phone runs on Samsung’s custom software TouchWiz, which is based on Android 5.0 (Lollipop) mobile OS.

  5. Lightning-fast charging- Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge comes with many great features, but its quick-charging ability is worth a special mention. A 10-minute charge of the integrated 2600mAh battery can support up to 4 hours of usage. It also has wireless charging which works with any wireless pad available in the market that supports WPC and PMA standards.

s6-edge-21

The specs are very much what we anticipated from a high-end device, released in 2015 by one of the market leaders. The company’s expertise in putting excellent hardware to work for the end user is undeniable and we expect nothing short of a blazing fast experience with the image output quality to match.

Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge is not yet available in Nigeria and there is no data on pricing and availability for Nigeria, but when available, Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge is expected to range from N165,000 to N250,000 at launch.

This smartphone has the looks and the features good enough to help Samsung wrestle back some share of the market from other top players, most notably Apple.

Would you be getting a GALAXY S6 Edge when it becomes available in April 10, 2015?

China: Nun horribly beaten up by rival over job position

A Buddhist nun in China has claimed she was badly beaten up by a rival who wanted to take over her job of running a Chinese temple.

Wei Hui, a Buddhist nun known as a bhikkhuni who ended up in the hospital, claims religious leaders are refusing to take action after she was left lying in the gutter covered in blood following the attack.

Reports say she was given the job at the Jingzhou Tienv Temple in central China’s Hubei Province  as head nun which is seen as very prestigious but it was also wanted by rival Xi Jing, who now stands accused of attacking Wei Hui to put her out of action.

She said: ‘I was left lying in the gutter with my clothes covered in blood. There is a medical report that confirms I was badly hurt, yet there seems to be some suggestion that it was my fault that I ended up like this.’

Her rival 41-yr-old Xi Jing, meanwhile says that the allegations that she was the one who was responsible for the attack are nonsense, despite the fact Wei Hui claimed to have identified her.

She said: ‘Wei Hui is merely unhappy that I was asked to take over while she recovered in hospital.

‘The fact that I had been offered the chance to stand in for her was clearly proof that our religious superiors believe the allegations were nonsense.’

According to Buddhist scriptures, the order of bhikkhunis or female nuns was first created by Buddha five years after he created the first Buddhist monk.

Although the female order eventually died out, it was reinstated in 2007 after a congress held in Germany with representatives from Buddhist countries all round the world.

Zhao Yongqin, the director general of Jingzhou national religious affairs management institutions, when contacted for comment claimed to be unaware of the fact that Wei Hui had been beaten despite the medical report testifying to her injuries.

A pastor who worked in a school has been arrested and charged with attempted murder after he shot a high school student who was peddling marijuana for him.
According to prosecutors, the 17-yr-old student who was shot in the back of the head is expected to survive.

The Associated Press reports that the suspect, 55-yr-old Shaun Harrison was arraigned in a Municipal Court in Boston and pleaded not guilty to several charges.
He was ordered held on $250,000 bail.

Officials say after Harrison’s arrest, he was fired from his job at the Boston English High School where he ran substance abuse and anger management programs.
He was known in the community for anti-violence efforts and working to keep youngsters out of trouble.
Authorities are yet to identify the teenager.

They are also investigating whether the pastor had ties to an illegal drug-dealing operation, and whether the boy he shot worked as a dealer in that operation.
The prosecutor also said Harrison sold marijuana and had enlisted the victim to work for him. adding that the 17-year-old said he had been promised “girls and weed” before Harrison shot him “execution-style” after a dispute.

The Assistant District Attorney David Bradley said the teenager was shot Boston’s Roxbury section, a business surveillance camera recorded the shooting.

Ayodele Owoka, have been dragged to by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), to a Lagos High Court, Ikeja, on charges bordering on conspiracy to offer gratification to a public officer, destroying of evidence and giving of false information.

According to the agency, Owoka was first arrested on February 27, 2014, at the office of the agency in Ikoyi, when he reportedly went to offer a bribe of N1.2 million to a team of operatives investigating a case of contract inflation, abuse of office, stealing, embezzlement and misappropriation of funds leveled against Omotosho.

One of the charge reads:

“That you Ayodele Owoka and Dr Olufemi Omotosho on or about the 27th day of February, 2014 at Lagos, within the Ikeja Judiciary Division, conspired to commit felony by offering gratification to a public officer to wit: Usman Zakari and the investigating team of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, in order that they refrain from acting in the exercise of their official duties regarding the investigation of the petition against you for fraud at the Federal Medical Centre Owo.”

Buhari is not strong enough to be President – Ayo Fayose

The Governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose has said that the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Muhammadu Buhari has confirmed that he is not in perfect health.
Fayose also condemned the APC’s planned one-million-man rally set to hold in Lagos on Saturday, March 7.
The governor made the comments on Friday, 6, via a statement released by his media aide, Lere Olayinka.
The statement reads:
“A man who campaigned for four weeks, speaking for less than one hour in all the rallies put together and needed to rest for 15 days should just stay at home and be playing with his grandchildren rather than struggling to take up a job that he does not have the required mental and physical strength to do.”

“They brought in Buhari like a thief in the night and now they want to put Lagosians into more hardships by blocking major roads all in the name of a phoney one-million-man match. Why not hold their rally in a designated place instead of embarking on a match that will cause chaos and hardships in the state?”
“Who do we now believe? APC said Buhari went on working visit to UK while Buhari himself said he went to UK to rest. “When asked by press men whether or not he ever visited any hospital in UK, Buhari said: ‘What is wrong for me to go the hospital?”

“By this statement from Buhari himself, it is clear that APC and its lying leaders tried to fool Nigerians, lying so brazenly and using fake pictures to authenticate their lies. Even though there is nothing wrong in Buhari going for medicare abroad, afterall he should be seeing his doctors more often at his age, it is shameful that APC lied so brazenly trying to cover up the obvious reasons Buhari travelled for 15 days.

“What is wrong is the lies told to defend Buhar’s trip to the UK to rest and seek medicare. The fake pictures of Buhari walking the streets of London, the fake Tony Blair picture and the use of pictures taken in Transcop Hilton, Abuja and claming that the pictures were taken in London is the main issue.”
“Most importantly, presenting Buhari to us as a superhuman, who can never fall sick is what is wrong and Nigerians are expecting Buhari to apologise for all the lies told in an attempt to cover up the real reasons he (Buhari) travelled secretly to UK.”

Buhari told journalists in Abuja upon arrival that there was nothing wrong with him going to a hospital.
Fayose has repeatedly alleged that Buhari is nursing a secret ailment which he went to treat in London.
