A mother was arrested on charges of assault after being caught injecting her son’s feces into his intravenous (IV) line, police in West Virginia said.
35-year-old Candida Fluty of Kermit, was arrested on charges of child endangerment and assault after sickening her 9-year-old son since he was born.
According to the police investigation, Fluty knowingly injected her son’s feces into his IV line while he recovered from surgery at the hospital.
Police arrested Fluty, after obtaining video evidence, which showed her putting a substance into the child’s IV line.
Investigators believe that the mother may have Munchausen syndrome by proxy, a mental condition in which a person makes another sick for personal fulfillment.
Fluty was booked into jail and her bail was set at $50,000. The child is now in the custody of the West Virginia Children Services, and is living with an aunt.
